Florida Event Decor is the premier special event company serving clients in Florida and throughout the U.S. We are a full service decor, design, and production company providing services for corporate events. We maintain a 20,000 square foot warehouse space containing rental props, lighting, furniture, and custom built items used in creating special events.

We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to play a key role in our scenic painting department and to assist our scenic builder. The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for painting props, set pieces, backdrops, and applying faux finishes, the application and installation of vinyl, prop design, sculpting. The secondary responsibility will be to assist the lead scenic builder in the build of various exhibit components, props, custom structures and stage sets.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Scenic painting (faux finish, age, mural, brush, roller & spray)
  • Performing layout, sculpting, theming and painting of various props from creative direction and/or conceptual drawings.
  • Performing air brush and conventional spraying, fades and blending.
  • Performing cosmetic fiberglass repairs and gel coats utilizing various materials.
  • Documentation of paints and procedures used in modifications and repairs.
  • Applying vinyl and graphics to décor and set items
  • Assist in fabrication, assembly and finish carpentry for exhibits, displays, scenic facades and graphic signs
  • Operate standard shop tools such as table saw, router, table saw, sanders and band saw and various hand power tools required in the fabrication and assembly of final products.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials
  • Share knowledge and creative ideas to grow the business and meet the vision of the client

Skills/Requirements

  • Degree or supplemental related experience
  • Proficiency in painting large scale props
  • Strong knowledge of faux finishing, graining, texturing, stenciling, color mixing and matching, layout, and scaling
  • Fine wood finishing, clear coating, spray gun
  • Experience with plural component foam and hard coating spray systems
  • Scenic building/carpentry experience is a plus
  • Any graphic design experience is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Critical eye for detail and aesthetics
  • Leadership skills and problem solving skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a team

The ideal candidate will be detailed oriented, well organized, a problem solver with a professional demeanor that is able to communicate effectively with managers and team members. Candidate must have flexibility with work schedules that may include occasional late nights, some weekends, travel and overtime.
